Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi’s Note series has always made its mark in the mid-range smartphone segment in India, owing to the fact that it comes with specs and features that can give many premium smartphones a run for their money. Just today, Redmi unveiled its latest iterations of the Note series – the Note 13 5G, Note 13 Pro 5G, and the Note 13 Pro+ 5G.
Now, should you happen to be using the previous generation of the Note 12 series – specifically, the vanilla Note 12 5G, you may be wondering just what’s new on its successor and if it makes sense to upgrade to the same. Redmi Note 13 5G vs Redmi Note 12 5G: Performance
The new Redmi Note 13 5G is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 6080 chipset coupled with a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU, and is available in three variants- one with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, one with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and one with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
The Redmi Note 12 5G on the other hand, is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 processor coupled to an Adreno 619 GPU and is available in three variants – one with 4GB of RAM and 128GB storage, one with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, and one with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
Redmi Note 13 5G vs Redmi Note 12 5G: Battery
Under the hood, the Redmi Note 13 5G packs a 5,000mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging. Depending on one’s usage, this should theoretically provide for all-day usage with ease. However, at the same time, it isn’t exactly an upgrade from the Note 12 5G, which also packs a 5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging support.
Redmi Note 13 5G vs Redmi Note 12 5G: Display and design
The Redmi Note 13 5G sports a 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz, and a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. The device also comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection and has an IP54 water and dust resistance rating.

The previous generation Redmi Note 12 5G also sports a 6.67-inch display. However, it is an FHD+ AMOLED unit with a 120Hz refresh rate and a slightly higher peak brightness of 1,200 nits. However, the device is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and comes with an IP53 water and dust resistance rating.
Redmi Note 13 5G vs Redmi Note 12 5G: Cameras
The newly-launched Redmi Note 13 5G brings with it a big upgrade when it comes to cameras. It houses a triple-camera setup at the rear, with a 108MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a 2MP macro sensor. On the front is a 16MP camera for selfies and video calls.
The Redmi Note 12 5G on the other hand, comes with a 48MP primary shooter, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 2MP macro sensor. On the front is a 13MP camera.
Both devices come with several other nifty features including an IR blaster, a 3.5mm headphone jack for those who like to listen to their music the old-school way, USB OTG support, and more.
Verdict: Should you upgrade to the Redmi Note 13 5G?
The biggest upgrades with the Redmi Note 13 5G, in comparison to the Redmi Note 12 5, come in terms of RAM and camera specifications. If you tend to multi-task on your smartphone frequently, or happen to be a heavy user of social media such as Instagram, the Redmi Note 13 5G certainly makes a strong case for itself.

On the other hand though, if the camera isn’t a big concern, the Redmi Note 12 5G is still an extremely potent device in its own right, and should suffice for most everyday use cases.
