Redmi 12 is an affordable 5G smartphone with 50MP camera

Xiaomi sub-brand, Redmi, has unveiled its latest budget offering for India – the Redmi 12 smartphone series. The devices are available in both, 4G and 5G variants. Among the talking points of this series is that the Redmi 12 5G variant is among the most affordable 5G compatible devices available in the country.

Redmi 12 key specifications

The Redmi 12 4G sports an octa-core MediaTek Helio G88 chipset coupled with either 4GB of RAM and 128GB storage, or 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage.

The Redmi 12 5G variant, on the other hand, is offered with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor. This is paired with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. This variant is further available in a third variant featuring 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage. The storage on all variants are expandable up to 1TB via a micro-SD card. Additionally, both devices support virtual RAM extensions of up to 12GB and 16GB respectively.

Both Redmi smartphones are backed by a 5,000mAh battery, with support for 18W fast charging via a USB Type C port. They also run Android 13-based MIUI 14 straight out-of-the-box.

The Redmi 12 smartphones feature a 6.79-inch Full HD+ display with a resolution of 1080 x 2460 pixels and a 90Hz refresh rate. Furthermore, the displays also feature a 240Hz touch sampling rate and a peak brightness of 450 nits. The displays on the devices are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

They also come with an IP53 water and dust resistance rating and weigh in at 199 grams. Furthermore, both variants of the Redmi 12, come equipped with 3.5mm audio jacks on the top and side-mounted fingerprint sensors.

Redmi 12 camera

Coming to optics, the Redmi 12 4G sports a triple rear camera setup at the rear, with a 50MP primary shooter, an 8MP ultra-wide camera with a 120-degrees field of vision, and a 2MP macro camera. Video recording for the rear camera at 1080p is capped at 30fps. On the front, one gets an 8MP camera for video calls and selfies.

The Redmi 12 5G, on the other hand, features a dual rear camera setup at the rear. It has a 50MP primary lens coupled with a 2MP depth sensor. At the front is an 8MP f/2.0 camera.

Redmi 12 pricing and availability

The 4G variant of the Redmi Note 12 series will be available in Jade black, Moonstone silver, and Pastel blue colours. It is priced at Rs 8,999 for the base 4GB + 128GB variant, and Rs 10,999 for the 6GB+128GB storage variant.

The 5G variant will be available in similar colours, and is priced at Rs 10,999 for the 4GB RAM and 128GB storage variant. Whereas the 6GB RAM and 128GB storage variant is priced at Rs 12,499. The 8GB RAM variant with 256GB of storage, is priced at Rs 14,999.
