Realme's next affordable mid-range phone is set to launch next week

Realme 12x 5G India launch announced: Here’s what to expect

Realme has been on a roll lately, having unveiled as many as four new additions to its mid-range and premium smartphone lineup, in the form of the Realme 12 series. The lineup, launched to take on Redmi’s Note 13 series and OnePlus’ Nord devices, consists of the Realme 12 and 12+ 5G, as well as the Realme 12 Pro and Realme 12 Pro+ 5G.

Now though, in a bid to capture an even larger chunk of the market, the company has just announced that it’s fifth and latest addition to the line up, the Realme 12x 5G, which will be launched in India on April 2. Here’s what we know about the device so far.

Realme 12x 5G: MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ SoC and 3D VC cooling system

The Realme 12x 5G was first launched in China last week. It slots in between the Realme 12 and 12+ 5G. The device is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ SoC, paired with a Mali G57 MC2 GPU.

While it gets the same processor as the Realme 12 5G, it also gets the 3D VC cooling system from its more expensive siblings. This, coupled with the fact that it gets 12GB of RAM with either 256GB or 512GB of storage, means it is a pretty decent machine for gaming as well.

Realme 12x 5G: Battery and reverse charging support

The Realme 12x 5G packs a 5,000mAh battery, the same as its other siblings, with support for 45W SuperVOOC charging. Interestingly though, it also supports reverse charging, which allows you to use it as a power bank to charge other devices.

Realme 12x 5G: Air gestures and dynamic button

Coming to the display, the Realme 12x 5G sports a 6.67-inch IPS LCD panel with a Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, with a peak brightness of 625 nits.

What’s cool though, the latest smartphone from Realme also gets support for air gestures, which the Realme Narzo 70 Pro gets. In essence, it allows you to allow you to navigate around the phone using gestures, without actually touching the phone. This helps in situations wherein your hands are messy.

What’s more, it also gets the customisable dynamic button from the vanilla Realme 12 5G. The button, which doubles up as the power button on the device, can also be used to toggle the camera, flashlight, airplane mode, as well as do-not-disturb, amongst others.

Realme 12x 5G: New dual rear-camera setup

Now, coming to optics, the Realme 12x 5G  sports a dual camera setup at the rear, housed in a large, circular camera island, the same as the other devices in the Realme 12 series. It gets a 50MP primary sensor and a 2MP secondary sensor. On the front is an 8MP sensor for selfies and video calls, housed in a punch-hole camera cutout in the centre.

While it misses out on a vegan leather back like the Realme 12+, it does get an IP54 water and dust resistance rating, meaning the device can handle the occasional spills and splashes with ease.

Realme 12x 5G: Expected pricing and availability

The Realme 12x 5G is currently available in China in two colours – Blue Bird and Black Jade. It is priced at CNY 1,399 (approximately Rs 16,400) for the 12GB RAM variant with 256GB storage, and CNY 1,599 (approximately Rs 18,750) for the 12GB RAM variant with 512GB storage.

The company has already confirmed that the smartphone will be launching in India on April 2. However information regarding storage variants of the device being made available in India, as well as the colour options and pricing remains under wraps for now.
