Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses will soon identify songs using Shazam

Remember Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses? After its launch in ____, these glasses gained a lot of popularity for being futuristic in terms of what they can do, while still looking like a regular pair of glasses (Sorry, Vision Pro fans). Now, the smart-wearable has added a new trick up its sleeve – figuring out what song is playing around you!

Yes, the Meta Ray-Ban glasses will soon let you Shazam a song around you, without pulling out your phone. Wouldn’t that be amazing? But that’s not all the pair of smart glasses will be able to do really soon. Let’s have a closer look at the new features.

Ray-Ban Meta glasses to get Shazam support

While Meta added Apple Music to its Ray-Ban smart glasses earlier this year, it has now integrated Shazam, the Apple-owned song identification app.

When a user asks the Ray-Ban Meta glasses, “Hey Meta, what is this song?” The glasses can recognise the music playing in the background and come back with an answer in just a few seconds. This can be a handy feature, especially for those users who love to travel and explore local music around them. It can also remind users of songs that they are trying to recollect by listening to a familiar tune nearby.

This feature will reduce the effort on opening your phone, heading to Shazam and asking the same question. If the glasses can come up with an answer without using your smartphone, it will provide a hands-free experience.

Along with the Shazam update, a new live translation feature is also coming to the Ray-Ban Meta glasses. When the other party is speaking in Spanish, French, or Italian, the glasses will translate the same in English for you through the glasses’ speakers. Will it translate what you say in English into one of the three languages used by the other party? That remains to be seen. This real-time translation feature can help users who are travelling in a country where language could become a barrier.

These features were first showcased at Meta Connect 2024. They are being rolled out to users who opted for the early access program. It is expected to be available to other users soon.
