Oppo Reno 12, 12 Pro 5G are the latest AI-focused smartphones

Not long after announcing the devices globally, Oppo has launched its Reno 12 and 12 Pro 5G smartphones in India. The latest series comes with slightly different specifications as compared to the Chinese variant and boasts on-device AI features at a mid-range price point.

Oppo Reno 12 series: What's there to know?

The Oppo Reno 12 and 12 Pro come with a 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Both variants also come with 1,200 units of peak brightness. The Reno 12 gets Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection, whereas the Reno 12 Pro comes with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for durability.

Oppo has employed its signature dual-glass finish back panel for the Oppo Reno 12 Pro, with the top half featuring a matte look and the glassy segment for the bottom half. Both phones feature a rear triple camera setup, but the telephoto lens and front-facing camera resolution are the biggest differentiator for smartphones.

The Reno 12 Pro gets a 50MP Sony LYT600 primary camera sensor backed with OIS. Apart from this, it also gets. 50MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom and an 8MP ultra-wide sensor.

The Reno 12, on the other hand, comes with a 50MP Sony LYT600 camera and OIS support. It gets an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP macro camera at the back as well. For selfies, Oppo has equipped the Reno 12 with a 32MP at the front and the Pro variant gets a 50MP camera instead.

On the performance front, both Reno 12 and 12 Pro are powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Energy processor. The Reno 12 comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, and the Oppo 12 Pro 5G with 12GB RAM, 256GB storage and 12GB RAM, 512GB storage options.

Lastly, both the phones pack a 5,000mAh battery and come with 80W fast charging support. The Reno 12 series is shipped with Android 14-based ColorOS 14.1. Oppo additionally mentions how the series will get up to three years of OS and four years of security updates.

Oppo Reno 12 series: AI features to look out for

Oppo has integrated on-device artificial intelligence for both its smartphones for routine use. Some of the notable features include AI Portrait Expert, which can help remove passing strangers from your pictures and/or delete unwanted objects with ease. The phones also get AI LinkBoost for faster file sharing and precise navigation.

Apart from these, users can also benefit from AI Clear Face, which can enhance and optimise group photos, along with AI Studios, which can turn them into digital avatars.

Oppo Reno 12 series: Price and availability

The Oppo Reno 12 is priced at Rs 32,999 and the Reno 12 Pro can be purchased starting at Rs 36,999. The Reno 12 is available in Sunset Peach, Matte Brown, and Astro Silver colour options, whereas the Reno 12 Pro comes in Sunset Gold and Space Brown Pro colourways.

The Oppo Reno 12 will be available to purchase starting July 25, and the Oppo Reno 12 Pro 5G can be bought from July 18 onwards. Both phones will be available across key retail outlets and e-commerce portals online. Other notable options offering a similar set of features within this price range are the Vivo V30 Pro 5G and the Realme 12 Pro+ 5G.
