The OnePlus Open was one of the best foldable phones of the past year, thanks to great design, a ground-breaking hinge and software that made the most of the folding inner screen. While the OnePlus Open was limited to two colours at launch, the brand is now soon launching a new variant of the phone.
OnePlus has announced that it will be launching the OnePlus Open Apex Edition next week on August 7. The phone will come in a new Crimson Shadow colour, which is a fancy red shade, and will also have some other improvements.

The new colour will join the Emerald Dusk and Voyager Black colours that the OnePlus Open is still available in. There could also be more storage and RAM in the new Apex Edition version, but the brand has not clarified this just yet, which means we shall only know more concrete specifications post-launch next week.
OnePlus Open specifications
Irrespective of whether there are storage and RAM upgrades, most of the specifications of the OnePlus Open Apex Edition should be in line with the vanilla variant of the smartphone.
These include a 7.82-inch 2K AMOLED folding inner display, along with a 6.31-inch 2K AMOLED display on the outside. Both panels are LTPO 3.0 panels and can dynamically adjust the refresh rate to up to 120Hz. Both panels also sport up to 2,800 nits peak brightness.
The OnePlus Open is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, and comes with 16GB LPDDR5x RAM and 512GB UFS 4.0 storage. The phone launched with Android 13-based OxygenOS 13.2, but has since been updated to Android 14. The OnePlus Open also sports a 4,800mAh dual-cell battery and comes with 67W fast wired charging support.
The phone features a 48MP main camera with OIS on the back, along with a 64MP 3x telephoto camera and another 48MP ultrawide camera. On the front is a 20MP camera on top of the inner foldable display, and another 32MP camera on top of the cover display.
More details on the new OnePlus Open Apex Edition will be live on August 7, and it remains to be seen if any new specifications will help the foldable measure up to the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6. Stay tuned to Unboxed by Croma for all the updates on the device.
