When OnePlus launched its first foldable in the form of the OnePlus Open, it quickly gained recognition as one of the best foldable smartphones to buy. The device came with a standout design, all the performance you’d need from a flagship, good cameras, OnePlus’ signature fast charging, and most importantly – a software experience that actually made the most of the foldable design.
Packed with the latest specs and a UI that made multi-tasking on the large inner screen a breeze, the OnePlus Open was well equipped to take on other entries in the segment, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series. Now, the phone is expected to get a successor, which could very well be called the OnePlus Open 2.

Here’s everything we know about the phone so far, and what you can expect if you’re planning to buy a foldable smartphone this year.

OnePlus Open 2: What we know so far
The OnePlus Open 2 is expected to pack a few upgrades over its predecessor. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone if the phone packs a newer chip like the Snapdragon 8 Elite, which will offer better multi-tasking, gaming and efficiency compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, a two-generation old chip.
The OnePlus Open 2 is also expected to be thinner than its predecessor. We are already seeing the Oppo Find N5 packing claims of being the world’s thinnest foldable ahead of its launch in China. Globally, this very device is expected to shape up as the OnePlus Open 2, suggesting it could be just as thin.
That’s not all. Just like the Find N5, the OnePlus Open 2 is also expected to pack wireless charging – a feature that was missing on the original OnePlus Open. Not only is the Open 2 expected to support wireless charging, but it will also likely be fast, peaking at 50W speeds.
More details around the OnePlus Open 2 are expected to surface later this year, as we head closer to the launch of the phone. Until then, stay tuned to Unboxed by Croma to keep up with all things tech.
