Ahead of the launch of the OnePlus 13, a number of details around the device are now being revealed to the public. While some of it is largely rumours, other updates are official. The latest in the latter is news around the dust and water resistance capabilities of the OnePlus 13.
Spoiler alert – the phone is going to be better at keeping the water out than most phones you have come across, including the new iPhone 16, Samsung Galaxy S24 and Google Pixel 9. In fact, the only phone from this year that matches it is the Oppo F27 Pro+ 5G.

As per a new update straight from the brand on Chinese micro-blogging site Weibo, the OnePlus 13 will pack both IP68 and IP69 ratings. That should make it even harder for phone to breach the phone’s linings. But how much of a difference is that? Let’s take a closer look.
What does an IP69 rating mean?
We have already covered the meaning of every IP rating in detail, and you must know that most flagship phones today come with an IP68 rating. The 8 in that rating, stands for protection against immersion. Immersion in water at up to 300cm for up to 30 minutes, to be precise.
However, what most people don’t know is that just because a phone can be safe when immersed in water, doesn’t mean it is safe against pressurised water, and that is where the IP69 rating comes in. The 9 stands for protection against high-pressure and high-temperature liquid jet sprays, as well as steam.
With an IP69 rating, any phone should be able to withstand most pressurised liquid sprays without letting the liquid reach the critical components inside the device. Whether most people will actually require that kind of liquid protection, remains to be seen.
What we do know is that the feature does make the OnePlus 13 more durable on paper in these areas. This is already a massive improvement over the OnePlus 12, which featured only an IP65 rating. This should add to all the other cool stuff the phone is expected to feature, including the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.
The OnePlus 13 is set to launch later this month on October 31, so those waiting for the device don’t need to wait too long to find out all official details.
