Some of the most awaited smartphones of the new year include the OnePlus 12 series. Most of the world will only see the OnePlus 12, the brand’s upcoming top-end flagship phone that showcases the best of what OnePlus has to offer in terms of specifications. However, some markets will also get the R-series of value-flagships, which in 2024, corresponds to the OnePlus 12R.
India, has fortunately been one of those markets for years, and now OnePlus has officially announced the OnePlus 12R. With flagship elements put together in an affordable package, the OnePlus 12R will succeed the OnePlus 11R, one of the best value-flagships of 2023. Here’s everything you need to know about the phone ahead of its full launch on January 23.
OnePlus 12R: What we know so far
The OnePlus 12R comes with a 6.78-inch OLED display panel. This panel will come with 120Hz refresh rate, but with an LTPO panel, similar to the one on the Nothing Phone (2). This panel allows the phone to not just max out at 120Hz, but dynamically set the refresh rate to any number between 1Hz and 120Hz.

OnePlus has also announced that the OnePlus 12R will feature the biggest battery ever on a OnePlus smartphone, a whopping 5,500mAh unit. Other information including what chipset the phone runs on, storage and RAM options, as well as fast charging specs are still under wraps.
OnePlus 12R: What else to expect
Despite most of the spec-sheet still a mystery, we do have leaks pointing to the OnePlus Ace 3, a China-exclusive launch which is set to be a rebranded version of the upcoming OnePlus 12R. The OnePlus Ace 3 is set to launch tomorrow, and leaks have given us a hint of what to expect on both the Ace 3 and the OnePlus 12R.
These specifications include Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection, as well as last year’s flagship chip, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, powering the phone. Leaks also suggest that this could be coupled with 16GB RAM LPDDR5X and 256GB UFS 4.0 storage.

Coming to the camera, the brand is expected to launch the OnePlus Ace/OnePlus 12R with a 50MP Sony IMX890 main sensor, along with an 8MP ultrawide camera and a 2MP macro camera. The 5,500mAh battery that OnePlus has confirmed for the 12R will also be reportedly joined by a 100W fast charging tech. Colour options for the OnePlus Ace 3 include gold, gray and blue, but we assume this could be switched up for the OnePlus 12R.
Note that these leaked specifications are not yet confirmed by the brand, so we suggest you take any information except the officially confirmed specs with a grain of salt for now. As we mentioned above, more details are expected to be made official closer to January 23.
