OnePlus 11R price cut: Should you buy it over the OnePlus 12R?

OnePlus launched two new smartphones under its 12-series last month. These comprise of the flagship OnePlus 12 as well as the upper mid-range OnePlus 12R. With the latter now going on sale, the brand has slashed the price of last year’s OnePlus 11R.

Getting a price drop of Rs 3,000, the OnePlus 11R (8GB/128GB) now starts at just Rs 37,999. This brings the phone under the Rs 40,000 mark for the first time. This puts the phone at Rs 2,000 lesser than the starting price of the OnePlus 12R. However, should you buy the older phone at this price? Let’s take a closer look.

OnePlus 11R vs OnePlus 12R: What’s different?

The OnePlus 12R boasts of some upgrades over the older 11R. Some of these are significant changes, while others not so much. The differences start at a slightly larger 6.67-inch display over the 6.74-inch display, although both 120Hz AMOLED panels are virtually the same in day-to-day usage.

The processor is also a differentiator. The OnePlus 12R features the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, which is a slightly more optimised version of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 that powers the OnePlus 11R. However, the difference between the general performance offered by both processors is not too large. Both the phones get similar RAM and storage variants.

The battery is another major difference, with the OnePlus 12R featuring a 5,500mAh battery which is larger than the 5,000mAh battery of the 11R. This extra 500mAh may offer significantly more juice at the end of a day if you’re a moderate-to-heavy user.

Lastly, there is the software on the phone. While both phones run OxygenOS, the OnePlus 12R being a newer phone will have the benefit of one additional year of software support during the latter stages of its life. This is important if you don’t have plans to switch your phone again in the next few years.

OnePlus 11R vs OnePlus 12R: Which phone is for you?

The OnePlus 11R is the more affordable phone between the two, but for just Rs 2,000 more, the OnePlus 12R offers a newer processor, bigger battery and longer software support. If these are aspects that matter to you, you may want to go for the OnePlus 12R instead.

One the other hand, if you just need a good OnePlus phone for day-to-day tasks, some casual gaming, and photography, you can go for the OnePlus 11R if your budget is really tight. Alternatively, you can also consider other phones in this segment, like the design-focused Nothing Phone (2) which is available for Rs 36,999.
