Samsung may flip the script this year with its upcoming foldables launch. Traditionally, the Galaxy S series receives the latest One UI version first. The S25 series debuted with One UI 7, the S24 series launched with One UI 6, and so on. However, reports suggest that this year, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 could be the first to ship with the latest One UI 8, based on Android 16.
Samsung’s foldables are expected to launch in June or July at the company’s next Unpacked event. This means prospective buyers of the Fold 7 or Flip 7 may get an early taste of Android 16 – much earlier than anticipated.

This shift in Samsung’s software release timeline is likely linked to Google’s updated rollout schedule. Reports indicate that Google plans to release the stable version of Android 16 earlier than usual, around June or July, which aligns with Samsung’s annual foldables launch. As a result, Samsung could introduce the new foldables running One UI 8, much to the excitement of fans.
This information also aligns with recent leaks indicating that internal testing of One UI 8 is already underway. Additionally, many devices that have yet to receive One UI 7 may soon get the update, only to transition directly to One UI 8, skipping incremental .1 or .1.1 updates. The rollout of One UI 7 has been notably sluggish this year, possibly prompting this accelerated shift.
As for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, both are expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. They may also feature larger batteries and a slimmer design. In particular, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is rumoured to come with a larger cover screen this year.
