Nvidia RTX 50-series GPUs announced at CES 2025

Meet Nvidia’s latest GPUs, some of which cost more than a MacBook Pro

Nvidia RTX 50-series GPUs announced at CES 2025

No PC components have come even close to the development cycle that GPUs, or graphics processing units have in recent years, and one of the brands responsible for the rapid growth of GPUs in terms of performance is Nvidia. Delivering his keynote address at CES 2025 today, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang also announced the next generation of Nvdia GPUs – the RTX 50-series.

Succeeding the RTX 40-series graphics cards which were announced last year, the new 50-series cards pack more performance, and perhaps the biggest improvement in ray-tracing abilities we have ever seen. The new series also includes a range of GPUs, the most expensive of which can touch $1,999 (about Rs 1,71,000). Here’s all you need to know about them.

Nvidia RTX 50 series graphics cards: What’s new?

The new RTX 50-series GPUs, currently only announced for desktops, will be available in the US starting later this month. The new Founders’ Edition cards with the GPUs include two double flow-through fans, a 3D vapour chamber, and faster GDDR7 video memory.

Despite multiple concerns over the increasing size of flagship GPUs, the RTX 5090, the most powerful GPU from the lineup, will only be a two-slot graphics card. Well, that’s the Founders’ Edition card we’re talking about; custom variants from third-party graphics card makers like Gigabyte or Asus could go bigger.

The RTX 5090 comes with 32GB GDDR7 video memory, a whopping 21,760 CUDA cores and features the brand’s Blackwell architecture along with DLSS 4 tech, both of which together use AI to improve the gaming performance (majorly in the graphics area) significantly.

Nvidia also demonstrated the perks offered by the mighty new RTX 5090 card with Cyberpunk 2077 running at maximum graphics next to an RTX 4090 running the same. While the 4080 with DLSS 3.5 manages about 106fps, the RTX 5090 with DLSS 4 clocks over twice the frames with at 238fps.

The lineup also includes the Nvidia RTX 5070, RTX 5070 Ti, and RTX 5080, the prices for which begin at $549 (about Rs 47,000). More details on availability, and models from third-party vendors are expected later this year, which is also when Nvidia will announce mobile versions of the new 50-series GPUs for gaming laptops.
