Nothing Phone (2a) could be the next ‘Made in India’ smartphone

Nothing Phone (2a) could be the next ‘Made in India’ smartphone

We’re about two weeks away from the launch of Nothing’s next smartphone, and it seems like new details on the device won’t stop flooding the internet. From a leaked design to a confirmed launch date, all revealed in the past couple of weeks, we’re starting to paint quite the picture for the upcoming Nothing Phone (2a).

However, the newest of these details reveal less about the phone and more about the manufacturing of the device. That’s right. Nothing CEO Carl Pei has recently confirmed that the phone will be manufactured locally in India.

This means the Phone (2a) will join an ever-growing list of phones that will be manufactured in Indian factories, rather than being assembled overseas and then be shipped to India. This actually gives the brand an advantage too.

Domestically manufacturing smartphones like the Nothing Phone (2a) reduces import duties and other costs associated with importing fully assembled smartphones to India. Whether this translates to a lower price for customers, remains to be seen. However, this could point at Nothing being able to put in better, pricier components on the phone.

Nothing Phone (2a): What we know so far

Not much about the Nothing Phone (2a) is confirmed officially, but leaks have told us a lot about what to expect from the device. This includes a new back panel design, complete with a redesigned Glyph lights interface that still manages to keep Nothing’s signature transparent design intact.

The phone is also expected to be an upgrade over the Nothing Phone (1), although a recent video hinted at the Phone (2a) actually being more affordable than the Phone (1). That said, it still is not confirmed if such a pricing will also apply to the Indian market.

The phone is also expected to sport a 6.7-inch 120Hz display, a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 chip, 50MP dual cameras (that are now apparently centre-aligned), and a 32MP front camera.

The phone is also expected to run Nothing’s newest software – Nothing OS 2.5 right out of the box. More details around the device are expected to be made official when the phone launches on March 5 this year.
