Nothing has already launched two smartphones, and its focus on unique design and intuitive software has garnered quite a sizeable community online. However, with Nothing taking the flagship approach with its 2023 device, the Nothing Phone (2), fans who wanted a more affordable experience were left with the older Phone (1).
However, that could change with Nothing’s next smartphone – the Nothing Phone (2a). Bringing the core features Nothing Phones are known for like the Glyph Interface and Nothing OS, Phone (2a) was touted to be a mid-range device.
Now, Nothing has just officially confirmed that this indeed is the case, and that we will see an affordable Nothing Phone (2a) launch later this year.
Nothing Phone (2a): What to expect
The Nothing Phone (2a) has been doing the rounds in the rumour mills for quite a long time now, and was being touted as a toned-down version of the flagship Nothing Phone (2). The device was first teased a few months back by Nothing CEO Carl Pei, with an image of what looked like the Aerodactyl Pokémon.

Nothing, in its quarterly community update, did confirm that it indeed exists, and has been code-named Aerodactyl. The phone features some of the most loved features on the Nothing Phone (2), and is a significant upgrade over the Nothing Phone (1), according to the company. However, it did not disclose the exact specifications or the launch date and price of the device.
The Nothing Phone (2a) is expected to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 SoC, and could be launched in two variants – one with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, and the other, with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.
The smartphone has also been tipped to pack a 4,920mAh battery with support for 45W wired fast charging. It is also expected to sport wireless charging capabilities of about 15W, same as the Nothing Phone (1).
The device is expected to sport a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, although it doesn’t seem likely that the device will pack an LTPO panel like the Phone (2).
For the cameras, the Nothing Phone (2a) is expected to come with a 50MP primary sensor and a 50MP ultrawide sensor at the rear, while on the front, it may get a 16MP camera for selfies and video calls.

Now, bear in mind that these are only rumours, and while the smartphone very much has been confirmed by Nothing, its specifications remain a matter of speculation.
Nothing Phone (2a): Expected pricing and availability
The Nothing Phone (2), to recall, launched at Rs 44,999. The Nothing Phone (2a) could be priced lower, and may stand around the Rs 35,000 mark, not far off from the older Nothing Phone (1). The device is also expected to be available in two colours – black and white, the same as its other siblings.
Secondly, when the smartphone will be launched in India as well as other international markets, also remains to be seen as of yet, as Nothing has divulged no details around the same. However, rumours suggest the device could go official during MWC 2024, towards the end of this month, so fans don’t have to wait too much for an update.
