Nothing OS 3.0 beta version rolled out: What to expect

Nothing OS 3.0, Nothing’s latest Android 15-based software skin has been teased for months, but now, Nothing users will finally be able to get their hands on the new version. The first open beta for the next major update is now live for the Nothing Phone (2a).

It is interesting to note that Nothing Phone (2a) gets to try out the new software first since it is neither the most high-end device nor the latest phone in the lineup. Well, let’s see what is in store for the users when Nothing OS 3.0 is made available for all.

Nothing OS 3.0: What to expect

Featuring a refreshed user interface, Nothing OS 3.0 is set to showcase a visual overhaul by adopting a more refined and dynamic aesthetic, while still maintaining the Android look and feel.

The Quick Settings tiles have been redesigned to be resizable to provide the users with customisation options and flexibility of use. By grouping features into distinct sections, the Settings app gets reorganised to improve navigation and accessibility.

It showcases a cleaner look and makes it easier for users to go through the settings. Additionally, new features get a dedicated section called ‘Special features’ which includes options for gestures, RAM booster, and game mode.

Users can change the system font, customise the lock screen, and even use an AI-powered app for further organisation. The Smart App Drawer leverages AI to categorise apps based on a more intuitive and personalised experience.

Moreover, the pop-up view which allows opening apps in a floating window, can be minimised or close with action buttons provided on the top.

Nothing OS 3.0: Building on Android 15

While Nothing OS 3.0 is built based on Android 15, it inherits new features introduced by Google. It provides the ability to archive apps to free up space, adjust colour contrast for improved accessibility, run basic device diagnostics, and set the Google Home Favourites page as the screen saver.

The new update offers a dedicated shortcut to access lock screen customisation options, supports partial screen sharing during recording or casting, and native support for passkeys.

Since this is the very first beta version, many features are yet to be integrated into future releases. Powered by Android 15, the Nothing OS 3.0 is promised to be released this December.

The Beta version is available only on Nothing Phone (2a) for now and other devices are said to receive it soon. For more tech updates, make sure to subscribe to Unboxed by Croma.
