Ever since Nothing launched its first smartphone, the Nothing Phone (1), the Glyph lights on the back has been one of the standout design elements of the device. This also carried on with the Nothing Phone (2), and the brand is also expected to launch its third phone, the Nothing Phone (2a) with some implementation of Glyph lights.
However, in a recent video, Nothing revealed that the company is working on releasing something Phone (1) and Phone (2) users have been wanting for years now – a way for developers to use the Glyph Interface lights in their own apps.
What is the Nothing Glyph Developer Kit?
In the Nothing Community Update vide for Q4 2023, the brand announced that it will soon be launching the Nothing Glyph Developer Kit for app developers. This will allow them to use the Glyph lights when their apps are running on the Nothing Phone (1) and Phone (2).

The possibilities are vast here – from third-party camera apps that can use the glyph lights as a flash module to games that can provide visual feedback for damage, and more. Nothing also mentions that the Glyph Developer Kit is an easy-to-use SDK (Software Developer Kit) with built-in helper functions that will help developers make apps for both devices at the same time.
The video also adds that a version of the kit was used to develop the Glyph Composer app with Swedish House Mafia, allowing users to create their own ringtones with unique Glyph light patterns.
Nothing Phone (2a) now official
Nothing also announced in the video its first official mention of its next device and third smartphone – the Nothing Phone (2a). While the device has been spotted in numerous leaks, the new video solidifies the name of the phone, and confirms that the next phone will be a mid-range device like the Phone (1).

More details were kept under wraps, but with the Phone (2a) expected to go official during MWC 2024 later this month, fans will not have to wait for long to get their hands on the device.
