Noise announced its first smart ring in the Indian market earlier this week with the Noise Luna Ring. An alternative to smartwatches and smart bands, both of which are typically worn on wrists, the Luna ring is worn on a finger. As a result, it is stealthier at just 3mm thickness.
Noise claims that the Luna ring is made up of a fighter-jet grade titanium body and comes with a diamond-like coating to protect the device from scratches and corrosion. The device comes with advanced IR PPG (Photoplethysmography) sensor, along with temperature sensors and a 3-axis accelerometer to measure your vitals, similar to how most smartwatches and smart bands work.

Coming to tracking, the ring is capable of tracking your sleep, readiness and activity, each element getting its own score. The ring is also capable of reading a user’s heart rate and blood oxygen levels. Noise has also revealed that a single full charge (about an hour) is enough for the ring to last for about 5 days. Other features include water resistance till 150 ft, temperature monitor and a durable titanium coating that should prevent damage on impacts.
The Noise Luna Ring is priced at Rs 18,999 and is available in three colours – Midnight Black, Lunar Black and Stardust Silver. The ring is available in multiple sizes too, and is compatible with both Android devices (Android 6 and above) and iPhones (iOS 14 and above).
Why rings may be the future of smart wearables
While both are worn by users, the new ring form factor offers some significant perks over the watch/smart band design. Rings are smaller, more compact, and easier to keep on for longer hours, as fingers are less prone to sweating compared to wrists.
Rings also give you more stylistic choices. You can wear multiple rings, but wear more than one watch and you’ll turn heads for all the wrong reasons. Smart rings give users the option of wearing their favourite classic analogue watches and still track fitness data.

That said, there are also some disadvantages to a ring form factor, like the lack of a display and hence, the ability to check and respond to notifications and alerts. Rings may also be more likely to fall off compared to watches and bands, which are usually better fastened.
Other brands set to rival Noise soon
Noise may have launched one of the first smart rings in India, but it’s not the only brand in the race. Rival boAt has also already announced boAt Smart Ring, but is yet to officially launch the product and make it available for purchase. Rumours also suggest Samsung is working on a Galaxy Ring of its own, and while no such product was announced at the Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event earlier this week where the highlights were the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5, Samsung may choose to launch a smart ring later with its own launch event.
