No more iTunes: Apple Music, Apple TV, other apps coming to Windows

Apple iPhone users who have had Windows laptops or desktops have always had a hard time syncing up the two devices. To do something as simple as moving some files from the iPhone to the computer, or vice versa, users were required to use iTunes, a media sharing software that would facilitate a wired sync between the two.

That is finally changing, with the release of three new Apple apps on the Microsoft Store later this week. These will be dedicated apps for Apple Music, Apple TV and a new Apple Devices apps. Together, these apps will replace the functionality that iTunes offered in a better manner.

The new apps, as per a leak by MacRumors, will be coming to the Microsoft Store later this week. Here’s everything you need to know about them.

Apple TV, Apple Music, Apple Devices apps explained

The new Apple TV and Apple Music apps will bring the functionality of Apple video audio streaming platforms to Windows. Users who have an existing subscription to these services, including new iPhone buyers who get the services free for a limited time, will be able to seamlessly scour through Apple’s large libraries of music and original TV content and play it back on their Windows machines.

The Apple Devices app, meanwhile, will help users sync files and media with their iPhones and iPads. The app will also help users create a backup of their iPhones and iPads on these Windows PCs more easily.

As per a report by The Verge, Apple’s new dedicated Windows apps for Apple TV and Apple Music, along with the Apple Devices app, will only be available on traditional x86-based Windows systems running Windows 10 or Windows 11. There are currently no signs of an ARM64 version of these apps for the multitude of Windows machines that are powered by Qualcomm chipsets.

The apps are set to be available later this week, and users will be able to find them on the Microsoft Store. Once you’ve installed the ones you want (or simply, all three of them), you will finally be able to remove iTunes from your computer for good.
