Nikon’s newest camera can zoom in six times more than the Galaxy S25 Ultra

While Samsung’s Ultra-series Galaxy phones like the Galaxy S25 Ultra are praised for the camera’s ability to zoom away into far away subjects, the world of cameras has moved far beyond this. Case in point, the new Nikon Coolpix P1100, which can (in theory) zoom six times the distance as the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Nikon has launched the new Coolpix P1100, succeeding the P1000. The camera, known for its zooming abilities, now features even more optical and digital zoom. Here’s everything you need to know about the new camera.

Nikon Coolpix P1100: New features and specifications

The Nikon Coolpix P1100 comes with a 24-3000mm zoom lens, which adds on to a body that weighs about 1.4Kg. The camera has a 16.79-megapixel sensor and a floating aperture of f/2.8 – f/8.

When optically zooming into 3000mm is not enough, and you want to zoom in further, there’s still digital zoom which will take you to the equivalent of a 12,000mm lens, which is 600x in comparative terms. Do note that, just like on any other camera, the digital zoom is at the expense of image quality.

The Nikon Coolpix P1100 also comes with Dual Detect Optical VR, which promises vibration reduction equivalent to 4.0 stops at the centre of the frame. Other specifications include a 3.2inch vari-angle LCD display, HDMI output for external displays and recorders, as well as support for shooting 4K video at up to 30fps.

There are also some niche features like a Bird Watching mode, and a Fireworks Mode, but our favourite addition would be the addition of a USB Type-C port, which replaces the older microUSB port.

The Coolpix P1100 is priced at Rs 83,695 and can be purchased straight from the Nikon website at the moment. Its alternatives include the Nikon Z50 mirrorless camera and the Nikon D7500 DSLR.

Both of these models lack the zooming capabilities of the Coolpix (at least without the right additional accessories), but are much more versatile with other forms of photography and videography.
