The next Nothing Phone could be a mid-range smartphone again

Another mid-ranger in the making?

The next Nothing Phone could be a mid-range smartphone again

Nothing launched its second smartphone earlier this year called the Nothing Phone (2). Among a number of improvements, the largest upgrade on the Phone (2) was the inclusion of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip. This made the device a proper flagship phone, unlike the Snapdragon 778G-bearing Nothing Phone (1) which was always an upper mid-range device at best. However, if reports are to be believed, Nothing’s next phone could be a mid-range device again.

Nothing Phone (2a) leak: What we know so far

As per a leak on X (previously Twitter), the next Nothing Phone could be named the Nothing Phone (2a) and could bear the model number AIN142. The post doesn’t reveal what chip the phone could run on, but if Nothing is planning to position this device below the Phone (2), we assume it could possibly be the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3.

The post does mention some of the other features, including a 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, a 50MP dual rear camera setup, a 16MP front camera and a 4,920mAh battery. The post also mentions that the phone will launch with Nothing OS 2.5 based on Android 14 out-of-the-box.

Two leaked images also reveal a few more details about the device. This includes the presence of what looks like a white colour variant (a staple for most Nothing products) and a design that’s very reminiscent of the Phone (1) on the back. The Glyph Interface as well as some of the elements underneath it almost looks exactly like the Phone (1).

However, the centre-aligned punch hole camera will help differentiate the phones, as the Nothing Phone (1) had a punch hole in the corner. Apart from this, we don’t currently know much about the new phone. While the leak does mention that the device may be called the Nothing Phone (2a), we see no such name in the About page in one of the two images.

Remember, this is an online leak after all, so we suggest you take this information with a grain of salt.
