The next iPhone SE may launch with A18 chipset and more

Apple is reportedly working on a new iPhone SE, and it’s no longer a secret, with all the information surfacing about the device every now and then. While the device is expected to launch next year, more and more details about its specifications are emerging. And just like that, we now have some key details about the next iPhone SE’s hardware.

Let’s see when you can expect the next iPhone Special Edition to launch, and what its specifications may look like.

What to expect from the next iPhone SE?

According to 9to5Mac, the upcoming iPhone SE will do away with the design of the iPhone 8, and instead, take the cloak of the iPhone 14. Yes, as you’d expect, Apple may recycle the design, and we could see a large 6.1-inch OLED display with a notch at the top.

Having said that, Apple may keep the Dynamic Island exclusive to standard and the Pro iPhones. As for the resolution of SE’s large panel, expect it to be 1170 x 2532 pixels. The refresh rate could be set at 60Hz.

Since the next SE may feature a new design, at least from the front and the sides, the Home Button with Touch ID could become a thing of the past. So, it may get Face ID support, just like the existing iPhones.

As far as the cameras are concerned, the device is expected to get a 48MP single-rear camera system, the same wide sensor as the iPhone 15. Expect it to have 2x optical zoom support. On the front, it may get a 12MP camera for selfies.

Coming to the performance bit of the SE, the device will reportedly get Apple’s A18 chipset and have 8GB of RAM for Apple Intelligence, which is Apple’s very own AI suite. If these specifications sounded familiar, that’s because that’s the exact same hardware as the latest base iPhone 16.

What’s new is that Apple may employ its first in-house 5G modem inside the next iPhone SE. For the unversed, Apple acquired Intel’s modem division back in 2019, but didn’t really succeed in bringing a final modem of its own.

Now, however, it seems to be confident, and it may no longer have to rely on Qualcomm-made 5G modems, which by the way, are inside the new iPhone 16 models. Apple’s own modems are expected to drastically reduce battery consumption, which may lead to a better battery life on the SE.

That’s all about the specifications of the next iPhone SE. Now, let’s see the expected release timeline of the device.

When will Apple launch the next iPhone SE?

While Apple is quiet about its next SE release, word is that the next iPhone SE may arrive in spring 2025, which is the first half of next year. There’s no information on its pricing and availability, but it should be cheaper than the standard lineup of iPhones and be available globally, including in India.
