A more powerful Vision Pro is in the works

Next-gen Vision Pro headset could launch in late 2025 or early 2026

It won’t be long before Apple’s first-ever mixed reality headset completes a year. And even before that, we’re already seeing have fresh details pop up online, about its (claimed) successor.

The second-gen Apple Vision Pro headset is reportedly going to arrive late next year, or in early 2026. And the new headset may potentially solve some of the more prominent issues one saw on the original Vision Pro, which caused buyers to refrain from buying it in the first place.

Here’s everything known about the features and possible release timeline of the next-generation Apple Vision Pro headset.

Next-gen Apple Vision Pro rumoured features

While the Apple Vision Pro headset was first announced in June 2023, it was only made available in February 2024 in the US and in June 2024 in more markets. The wearable came with a rather beefy design and an M2 chipset, which was at the announcement a generation older, as we already had M3-powered Macs available by then.

Even before the broader release of the Vision Pro in June 2024, Apple already had the even more powerful M4 series of chipsets announced in May 2024, which came to the MacBooks in October this year.

Thanks to these quick releases of Apple silicon chips, the original Vision Pro’s hardware felt like a limitation, especially at its price – a whopping $3,499 (about Rs 2.95 lakh). Plus, the software of the device is still not that optimised and many apps lack support for it.

With the next Vision Pro, Apple reportedly plans to solve some of these major issues, instead of bringing something completely new to the table. Apple is said to be planning on using the upcoming M5 chipset in the next Vision Pro. So, it may skip two generations, giving users the best possible hardware.

Given how powerful Apple’s M4 series of chipsets are, we are expecting the M5 chipset to just add on to its gains and offer an even better performance. Besides this, Apple is also expected to improve its software.

Recently, Apple released the visionOS 2.2, bringing some of the convenient display options – wide and ultra-wide. Notably, such features come almost 10 months after the wearable’s release. This hints that Apple is now serious about the wearable’s software.

Also, by the time the next Vision Pro arrives, expect more apps to support it. So, overall, Apple appears to be fixing some of the prominent issues with its next Vision Pro headset. As for the design, don’t expect any major shift from the current design of the headset.

Other than this, well-known Apple analyst, Mark Gurman, reported that Apple is focusing more on the second generation of the Vision Pro, instead of the rumoured cheaper Vision Pro. And it’s focus means that the Vision Pro may launch next year. He speculates the launch to happen between Fall 2025 and Spring 2025, which is late next year to early 2025.
