New video games you shouldn’t miss in February 2025

The first month of 2025 is already behind us, and February is bringing a fresh wave of exciting game releases. Avowed, Obsidian Entertainment’s next big RPG set in the Pillars of Eternity universe is one of the most anticipated titles this month.

You’ll explore the Living Lands of Eora, a world filled with lush forests, barren deserts, and mysterious caves. As an envoy from the Aedyr Empire, your mission is to uncover the truth behind the Dream Scourge, a deadly plague threatening the region.

But February has more to offer, including Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, which takes Goro Majima on a high-seas pirate adventure in Hawaii. You’ll lead a crew, hunt for treasure, and dive into chaotic battles across open waters.

Meanwhile, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 picks up Henry’s story, pulling you deeper into the brutal conflicts of medieval Bohemia. And for strategy fans, Civilization 7 is making a grand return with new mechanics, a fresh approach to eras, and the power to shape the future of civilisation itself. Here’s a closer look at all the games hitting shelves this February!

Obsidian Entertainment has earned its reputation for crafting deep, narrative-driven RPGs,  like Pillars of Eternity and The Outer Worlds. Now, with Avowed, they’re bringing that same magic to a new action RPG set in the familiar world of Eora. In Avowed, you play as “The Envoy,”  a “godlike” representative of the Aedyr Empire, sent to the Living Lands to investigate the deadly Dream Scourge plague.

As you explore hand-crafted zones, from lush forests to barren deserts, you’ll uncover the dark secrets poisoning the land. You can fully customise your character and choose your combat style, whether it’s slicing through enemies with a sword, casting massive spells, or wielding both pistols and wands. 3. Civilization 7

The legendary Civilization series is back with Civilization VII, and it’s bringing some exciting changes. Firaxis has introduced a fresh three-act structure, where you’ll guide your civilisation through three distinct ages, Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern, with a new civilisation and leader in each era.

You might start by ruling ancient Egypt in Antiquity, then shift to Spain in the Exploration era and eventually command the French Empire in the Modern age. A cool new feature is the “Crisis Events” that pop up at the end of each era.

These challenges can completely change the course of your civilisation’s development, and to tackle them, you’ll pick Crisis Policies that ramp up the difficulty during the final turns of each age. Civilization VII also shakes up leadership by letting you play as philosophers, religious figures, and scientists, not just traditional rulers. It’ll be available on multiple platforms, including Windows, macOS, Linux, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam Deck, with crossplay support for multiplayer.

4. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

The long-awaited sequel to 2018’s Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 picks up where the first game left off, with Henry, now a seasoned knight, defending King Wenceslaus IV against Sigismund of Luxembourg during the 15th-century Bohemian civil war. The sequel builds on the original’s focus on historical accuracy and realism while adding new features like crossbows and early firearms that you can even use while mounted. Your choices will shape Henry’s journey, influencing how NPCs react and how his relationships evolve, including with the returning Sir Hans Capon.

The game also introduces new dialogue options like Coercion and Dominate, giving you more ways to control conversations. Set in a world twice the size of the original, you’ll explore two massive areas: the lush Bohemian Paradise and the silver-rich city of Kutná Hora. Fans of the first game’s brutal, skill-based combat will be happy to know the directional combat system is back, plus there’s an even deeper crafting system to dive into. Embracing his new pirate persona, he leads a crew in search of treasure, all while uncovering clues about his forgotten past. Along for the ride is a quirky cast, including a boy named Noah and a mix of pirates, ex-yakuza, and islanders.

The game keeps the classic beat ’em up combat, but now Majima can switch between two stances: Mad Dog, for fast and brutal moves, and Sea Dog, where he wields dual cutlasses and pistols for some serious pirate action. The real treat, though, is the ship combat, wherein Majima can upgrade his ship, the Goromaru, take on enemy ships in naval battles, and board them to defeat rival crews. On top of that, the game brings back fan-favorite minigames and adds new ones like Masaru’s Love Journey. Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza promises a wild ride when it releases on February 21, 2025.

The game features a seamless open world, letting you explore areas like the Windward Plains and Scarlet Forest without any annoying loading screensThe gameplay sticks to what fans love, tracking, hunting, and battling powerful monsters to gather materials for new weapons, armor, and gear.

New tools like the Seikret mount make it easier to explore and fight. The combat system gets a nice upgrade with Focus Mode for precise strikes and more ways to use the environment to your advantage, like triggering natural hazards or battling apex predators during seasonal changes.
