The past few hours were eventful, with Samsung unveiling the latest Galaxy S25 series. But that wasn’t the only announcement at Galaxy Unpacked 2025 this year. Google took the stage to unveil an ‘even more personalised’ and ‘helpful’ AI assistant for Android devices. Check out everything about the new and advanced Google Gemini.
Gemini to work across multiple apps
For starters, Gemini will now replace Samsung’s Bixby and will be the default on-device assistant. This was brought in for the AI assistant to support other functions, including Google’s AI-powered Circle to Search.
Apart from this, Gemini will now be able to carry out multimodal tasks, meaning you can simply ask it to search for a pet-friendly cafe for your friend or simply ask for it to add the latest events around the town straight to your calendar.

The multi-app support will be a part of Google’s existing Gemini smartphone app. And if that’s not all, Google mentions how it will be able to support several of its other services, alongside a few more third-party apps, including WhatsApp and Spotify.
The new update also adds Samsung’s native apps to the list as well, such as Calendar, Notes, Clock and Reminder. That said, other multi-extension prompts will also soon be available for all Android users.
Other upgrades coming to Gemini
Other updates announced include changes coming to Gemini Live, the AI assistant’s voice-based conversational mode. However, this update is currently only reserved for Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S24 series phone owners. Apart from this, it will also be available for the Google Pixel 9 series.
Users with these devices will now be able to share images, files as well as YouTube videos to its chat interface for feedback and information. Google additionally mentioned that it will also bring in Project Astra features, such as screen sharing and live videos for Gemini, in the upcoming months.
Next up, the brand mentioned how Circle to Search is also getting a few improvements this time around. It will now be able to recognise phone numbers, email addresses, as well as URLs for the AI assistant to interact with them more easily. Lastly, Google also announced changes which will make it significantly easier to pair Braille screen readers or hearing devices with Android devices.
