New Circle to Search update for Android may help you identify that catchy song

Google introduced its Circle to Search feature for Android smartphones earlier this year, and it has gradually made its way to other devices. Since then, the extension to Google Search has been a popular way to look up information on the spot.

The feature was introduced to improve efficiency and promote the frequency of searches on Google or Android smartphones. Now, an Android Authority report hints that Google might be planning an audio search feature for Circle to Search in the near future.

Circle to Search audio search update: What's there to know?

The report discovered strings of code referencing the possibility of an ‘audio search button’ on the Google app beta. The publication was also able to make the said button appear on the UI and it resembles a music note with a circle on it. However, pressing the button didn’t do anything and the report suggests that it ‘lacks all functionality’ as of today.

That said, it mentioned how the button could identify songs or music playing on or around the smartphone. Additionally, it may use the audio to provide extra context for your Google searches. So far, it seems as though the button will sit next to the microphone icon on the Google Search bar and will act as a separate entity.

When will the Circle to Search audio search update be available?

As of today, it isn’t entirely known whether or not Google will ever launch the audio update for Circle to Search. Until an official statement from the company, it may also be safe to assume that the feature could get scrapped in the coming few weeks.

However, there seems to be a bunch of other updates in the pipeline for Google’s Circle to Search. One of which also talks about how the company will soon allow Pixel tab users to activate the feature by holding down the action key.

If you’re still not sure how to use it, Circle to Search can be triggered by holding the home button on your Android device. Once activated, you can use your finger or a stylus to circle an element on your screen; this could be an image, icon or text.

On doing this, Google will display search results based on the selected component. Before The feature is currently available on selected devices and if you’re not sure whether yours makes the cut, check out if yours makes it to the list.
