This new Android feature will allow you to edit sent Google Messages; here’s how

Earlier this month, Google introduced us to a bunch of cool new ways to experience AI on Android smartphones. In fact, Google I/O 2024 also put a spotlight on security and ways on how to make the most of the Android ecosystem. But if that wasn’t all, Google has now announced seven new features that will make their way to our smartphones soon.

A notable feature among the new ones includes the ability to edit Google Messages chats after they are sent. Read on to learn everything about the new feature along with its availability details.

How to edit sent messages on Android

If you’re an Android smartphone user, you probably have used Google Messages to communicate with your friends and loved ones. There’s now a new feature that makes Google Messages a level better than the native text app.

In essence, Google will now let you edit your last text for up to 15 minutes after you send it to your contacts. All you need to do is long press the RCS message and a Pencil icon should appear on the top of your screen. Once you are done rewriting your message, you can tap on the check mark icon to save your changes.

The feature was first observed a year ago after references to edits first appeared in a Messages app code. However, it is only now that Google has announced the feature for smartphones with Android 8 and higher. It is worth noting that features similar to this have already been observed in rival messaging platforms, such as WhatsApp and Instagram, as well.

What are some other new features coming to Android smartphones?

Apart from this, Android users will soon be able to enjoy other new features, including the ability to switch between devices for video calls and also share hotspot details with a single tap.

Google is also reportedly set to introduce an ‘Emoji Kitchen’ feature as well, which will allow users to mix and match their favourite emojis and create a fun new combination.

On the home front, users will soon be able to add their most used devices to their smartphone’s home screen for ease of access and also manage their favourite devices with a WearOS watch. The WearOS update will also introduce newer ways to pay using Google Wallet. Lastly, Google mentions how it will bring in the Digital Car Key feature for a select few variants, including Mini and Mercedes.

The edit message update is likely to roll out within a span of a few weeks, and you will find it available for your smartphone with Android 8 or higher gradually by the end of June.

However, it is important to note that the hotspot-sharing feature will only be compatible with smartphones running Android version 11, and the Digital Car Key update will be available for anyone with Android 12 and above.
