Aadhaar goes digital and brings new features for you

New Aadhaar app brings face authentication, AI and QR scans to your fingertips

In a major leap toward digital identity empowerment, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has showcased a sleek new Aadhaar mobile application that promises to revolutionise how Indians verify their identities.

Developed in collaboration with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), this AI-powered app blends facial recognition, QR scans, and secure digital sharing – making Aadhaar verification as effortless as UPI payments.

You can now use Aadhaar Face Authentication

Gone are the days of fumbling through wallets for photocopies of your Aadhaar card. Whether checking into a hotel, boarding a flight, or shopping, you’ll soon be able to verify your identity with a simple face scan or QR tap – right from your mobile phone.

Announcing the app on X (formerly Twitter), Vaishnaw celebrated its privacy-first approach: “No more distributing Aadhaar photocopies. With just a tap, you can share only the necessary data while maintaining complete privacy.”

A standout feature is Aadhaar Face Authentication, already processing over 150 million transactions monthly. The app also introduces QR-based verification, offering users the same ease they’ve come to expect from UPI.

Currently in beta testing, the app is being previewed by early adopters, including attendees of the Aadhaar Samvaad event. The government is eager to gather feedback before a nationwide rollout, fine-tuning the experience for the masses.

UIDAI’s technology centre showcased how the app gives Aadhaar holders full control over their information. With strong safeguards against data misuse, it aims to prevent identity theft while enhancing user convenience.

This innovative step in India’s digital journey highlights a future where identity verification is not just secure, but also seamless and stylish. With the full release on the horizon, the new Aadhaar app is set to become a modern essential in every Indian’s digital toolkit.
