Too tired to choose? Netflix’s new AI tool may soon do it for you based on mood

There’s nothing quite like unwinding with a comfort episode after a stressful day at work, but oftentimes, it gets even more stressful to choose the perfect title to tune into! If you’re one of those, you might just appreciate Netflix’s latest AI tool, which the platform is testing out for select subscribers.

According to a report published on Bloomberg, the media-streaming giant seems to be testing a new AI-driven feature that might just help you zero into your favourite shows minus the pondering. Here’s what we know so far:

Netflix tests OpenAI-powered search tool

According to the report, the AI search engine will be powered by OpenAI, and it will take Netflix’s current search capabilities a notch above. How? By letting you look up movies as well as TV shows, not just by title, but by actor and genre as well. Moreover, it will also allow you to look for specific content with numerous other search terms, such as mood.

So, the next time you’re looking for a good cry fest, all you will have to do is inputsadinto Netflix’s search bar! If that’s not all, the report also suggests that users might just be able to use a language they’re comfortable with within their search to draw relevant results.

AI and Netflix: What else is there to know?

The feature is currently being tested on a limited number of subscribers, and there’s no word on its official rollout date. However, this wouldn’t be the first time Netflix has implemented an AI-powered feature for its platform. The company has harnessed the technology to give you the right recommendation and help subscriber discover content based on their viewing history.

Despite this, Netflix, in the past, has made its stance abundantly clear about its decision to not use AI in the creative space, meaning it will not replace filmmakers, screenwriters or actors. However, will this new addition be a game-changing tool for indecisive users (read: me!) or will it take away the fun of discovering new content by accident — perhaps, only time will tell!
