Microsoft Copilot will soon make you better at AI prompts: Here’s how

Microsoft is working on a new update for Copilot, which will make anyone using the AI-powered tool instantly better at getting their prompts right. This is because Copilot will soon be able to give you suggestions and complete your prompts.

The addition could change how we use generative AI, and even make it accessible to many more people. Here’s why we need it and how it will work.

Why prompts are still a pain point in generative AI

Generative AI has taken the world by storm since last year, and AI chatbots have played a key role. One of the earliest implementations of generative AI, chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Google’s Bard (now Gemini) have been the gateway to multiple other AI use-cases for many.

However, a year later, getting the best out of AI-based text, image or even music generators relies on the quality of prompts. Also called prompt engineering, the process is crucial to making sure an AI tool is able to understand the output you have visualised and deliver accordingly.

Without the right kind of details and creativity in your prompts, most AI-powered tools will not perform at their best. This is the pain point Microsoft is trying to fix with a future Copilot update.

How Microsoft Copilot will make everyone better at prompts

As per a new blog post, Microsoft has announced that the company is working on a new auto-complete feature and even a rewrite feature for Copilot. The features will be a part of the Microsoft 365 subscription, and will allow users to better their prompts instantly.

The auto-complete feature will, for instance, help anyone complete their prompts once they are a few words into it. Meanwhile, the rewrite feature will take any (poorly written) prompt and convert it into one that Copilot can better understand, in turn offering better outputs.

Microsoft has said that the new features will be coming to Copilot in the coming months. However, an exact timeline has not been shared. It is also not clear if the feature will be be available to all versions of Copilot, including the app for iPhones and Android phones. More details on these aspects should surface closer to the launch of the features.
