Microsoft Copilot gets a new ‘amicable’ voice, reasoning capabilities with new update

Microsoft has been actively trying to integrate AI assistance with Copilot into day-to-day tasks. However, it is all set to receive a significant upgrade and will soon get deeper integration into the Edge browser. If that’s not all, the company also mentioned how it will make the chatbot more ‘amicable’. Here’s everything new it can do:

Microsoft Copilot gets a voice and vision update

For starters, Microsoft Copilot will no longer be ‘robotic’ and will take to the likes of ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode its new tone. The chatbot will now have four new voice options, and the company claims it will be able to have more natural conversations with a user.

According to Microsoft, the new Copilot Voice will now be able to brainstorm ideas, ask follow-up questions and even hold longer discussions with a user. The demo also displayed how the artificial intelligence assistant will now respond like Google Gemini or OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Microsoft also announced a Copilot Daily feature which has the ability to provide users with summaries of news and weather. If that’s not all, they can choose to listen to their daily updates in the new Copilot Voice of their choice. The brand, however, goes on to mention that the chatbot will only be able to provide news by select platforms such as Reuters, Financial Times, and Hearst Magazines.

Apart from this, Copilot gets a new Discover section where personalised ideas can be presented as cards. The company notes that these cards can double up as conversation starters with its AI chatbot. Microsoft has also integrated Copilot into the Edge browser to help users summarise page content or rewrite sentences. For ease of access, users will be able to summon the chatbot by typing “@copilot” in the address bar on Edge.

For Copilot Pro users, Microsoft has added an extension to help the chatbot ‘Think Better’. The experimental feature will allow the AI assistant to use reason and answer complex queries. It will also take slightly longer to respond and make suggestions, ask follow-up questions and offer comparisons when required.

Lastly, the brand introduced Copilot Vision, an opt-in experimental feature, which can understand the elements on your webpage. The tool will rival Google Lens and source real-time answers for users based on the query displayed on their device.

When will the new Microsoft Copilot updates be available to everyone?

Microsoft has already begun rolling out the new Copilot updates for its users; however, the eligibility for these currently depends from region to region. Copilot Voice is now available for users based in select regions of the US, UK, Canada, as well as Australia. The language is also currently limited to English.

Copilot Daily, on the other hand, is available in the US and the UK. That said, Microsoft has mentioned plans to expand this feature to other regions as well. Both Copilot Vision and Think Deeper are opt-in, experimental features that can only be accessed by Copilot Pro users on Copilot Labs. The company is yet to mention if the features will be rolled out at a larger, global scale, but you can always stay tuned to Unboxed by Croma for timely updates on Microsoft.
