Only a few months ago, Meta rolled out MetaAI, powered by Llama-3, and tested it on a selected number of users in India. Now, the social networking company has officially made the chatbot available to more users in an effort to scale up its AI offerings in the country.
This means Meta users across the country will now be able to access the AI chatbot via one of the company’s many social media platforms, including Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp as well as Instagram.
Apart from being available to users via the platforms’ search bar, MetaAI can additionally also be accessed on the web via meta.ai and a few other ways. Here’s everything you need to know.
MetaAI in India: What's there to know?
MetaAI’s primary functionality will remain similar to that of OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini. Users will be able to quiz the chatbot about recipes, ask for it to plan a workout, write poems, emails and even summarise a movie for you.

Apart from this, the chatbot can also bring you suggestions based on the platform you’re using. For instance, on Instagram, MetaAI will be able to suggest Reels as per your search query.
Alternatively, on Facebook, users will be able to interact with a MetaAI prompt on their feed which will allow them to ask more questions about a post. This means the next time you see a picture of a beautiful landscape, you can simply ask MetaAI to tell you more about the best time to visit or where to stay.
Instagram or WhatsApp users will also be able to mention MetaAI in a conversation for more information on the topic of discussion. According to Meta, the chatbot will not have visibility to other conversations apart from the ones it was tagged in. As of today, MetaAI is only available for users in English and does not support any other local languages.
How to access MetaAI in India
MetaAI can be accessed via any of the abovementioned platforms or via the meta.ai website. That said, some users may still get a message stating: ‘MetaAI isn’t available yet in your country’. This would mean the company is still rolling the chatbot out in a phased manner and the update should reach you shortly.
