It’s been just about three months since Meta first launched Meta AI to users in India. The AI chatbot, powered by the Llama-3 Large Language Model (LLM) can do anything from rephrasing your texts in Instagram DMs to create GIFs for WhatsApp, and even plan workout regimes, and even summarise movies for you, right within the Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp applications on your smartphones.
Well, it has now just received an upgrade. Powered by the new Llama 3.2 multimodal models – 11B and 90B, Meta AI now gets voice chat and image analysis capabilities. Read on to know more.
Meta AI: What’s new on the AI chatbot?
Meta AI now gets two crucial new features which become more of a viable alternative to the two bigwigs in the AI space currently – OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.
Voice chat on Meta AI
You can now talk to Meta AI using a voice chat feature, and it will reply to your queries verbally as well. What’s cool is, it can search for the answers on the internet in real-time. It does miss out on the ability to understand interruptions mid-way unlike Gemini Live and ChatGPT Advanced Voice, but you get a two-way chat interface. What’s rather fun though, is that you can choose from a range of voices from several famous personalities that you like.
Image analysis and editing features on Meta AI
You can also share pictures on chats with Meta AI, which it can analyse and answer any questions you may have about them. For example, you could show it a picture of a monument and ask it to tell you all about it. Or maybe show it an image of a dish you really liked and ask it how to prepare it.

Meta AI now also gets image editing capabilities. Just send it an image in a chat, and tell it what you need added or removed from it. It can even reshare photos from your feed to your story and generate a background for it based on what’s going on in the image. What’s cool is, the image editing feature is available directly within your social media apps, including Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram.
While these are two standout upgrades Meta AI has received, there are also a few other new features we think you might be interested in.
Other features to look out for on Meta AI
There’s a new Reimagine AI tool, which lets you create AI-generated images of yourself. These include photos from your feed, stories, or even Facebook profile pictures. All you have to do is add a prompt, based on which Meta AI will instantly modify your image, and generate a new one.
On offer is also an automatic translation of Reels. Meta AI can now automatically dub and lip sync a creator’s voice, should they happen to be speaking in a language you don’t understand. The feature is currently being tested in Latin America and the US in English and Spanish. However, Meta says that it will be rolled out to more creators and countries, with support for other languages soon.

It isn’t clear as to when the new features announced at the Meta Connect 2024 will be rolled out to the chatbot. However, we can’t wait to try them out for ourselves!
