Take a step towards mindfulness and gratitude

I tried the Medito app and here’s how it makes mental well-being accessible

With our hectic lifestyle, balancing work and personal life may seem challenging. And while it is easy to overlook our mental health, we already know how 10 minutes of meditation can offer better stress management and that much-needed break.

More often than not, we find ourselves glued to our phones – but what if we tell you that your smartphones can also be an essential tool to practice mindfulness and relaxation?

With meditation apps being available in the palm of our hands, we can include mindfulness in our lives, whether with a quick break at work or a full-blown bedtime routine.

However, in a sea full of meditation apps, finding the right one can be a challenge. I came across Medito during my pursuit of peace, and here’s what I thought about it.

What is Medito and can it help?

Medito is a meditation app created by the Medito Foundation. The foundation is a non-profit organisation run by volunteers with the mission to make mental well-being accessible. It claims to promote meditation methods using both ancient and modern practices.

What makes Medito stand out is that it’s completely free. It offers a wide range of guided meditations, breathing exercises, sleep aids, and more. The app focuses on day-to-day stress management, mindfulness, gratitude and compassion.

What did I think of Medito?

Medito felt fairly simple to navigate, and because the app was free, there was no sign-in required. The homepage has two tabs – Home and Explore – which keep track of your meditation streaks and offer a multitude of meditation practices to suit your needs.

In addition to tracking my streaks, the Homepage also made it easy to access my daily meditation session, timer, and downloaded sessions easily. As someone who struggles with being consistent, the 30-day challenges for mindfulness, compassion and getting active offered by Medito were a great help to me. The app also has guided sleep meditations, stories, nature sounds, and music to help you sleep.

I liked how there are Emergency sessions that target specific negative feelings of anger, fear, grief, or stress. I also found it endearing that there’s a new encouraging quote at the bottom of the Homepage every day. Though I wish the app allowed me insights into my emotional progress along with tracking the amount of time I spent meditating.

The Explore page has a variety of meditative practices from affirmations to pain management and even a separate section for teens and young adults. Unlike the other apps I tried, this one let me choose the duration of my sessions so I could go at my own pace.

Medito was perfect for a newbie like me, but I found the practices and sessions to be pretty generic. And though the guided meditations were well-made, the app only offers three generic voice options to choose from.

How to get the Medito app

Medito is available for both Android phones and iPhones. It would have also been ideal for many to have Medito on their laptops, unfortunately there’s no PC version available. Medito also does not have a premium tier and all features and meditations on this app are free to use.

While the app may lack features that are generally offered by other, well-known premium platforms, Medito is the perfect meditation app for people looking to take that first step towards their mental well-being.
