It’s been barely a few days since Qualcomm launched its much-awaited mid-range smartphone chipset, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. MediaTek, which also recently unveiled its flagship Dimensity 9300 SoC, has launched yet another chipset in a bid to take on Qualcomm. Enter, the Dimensity 8300. Read on.
MediaTek Dimensity 8300 features and key specifications
The MediaTek Dimensity 8300 is based on 2nd generation 4nm process, with an octa-core CPU that comprises four ARM Cortex-A715 cores and four ARM Cortex-A510 cores. The chipset, as per MediaTek, offers a 20 per cent increase in performance and consumes 30 per cent less power as compared to its predecessor.

It also packs a Mali-G615 MC6 GPU, which according to MediaTek offers a 60 per cent increase in performance and a 55 per cent decrease in power consumption. The maximum RAM speed support on the new MediaTek Dimensity 8300 stands at 83000MHz as compared to the 6,400MHz on the chipset it replaces – the MediaTek Dimensity 8200. Another big improvement on the chipset is that it now also supports UFS 4.0 storage. Coupled with the MediaTek’s Adaptive Game Technology 2.0, as well as Modem Express 2.0, the chipset can handle gaming with ease, ensuring it provides a lag-free experience, and remains cool too.
On the camera front, the Dimensity 8300 features several improvements, especially when it comes to videos. It supports 4K videos at 60fps. Moreover, it also allows users to record 4K HDR videos on two cameras simultaneously. The chipset, in addition to this, also features an AI-colour content smart ISP. MediaTek also claims that it offers flagship-grade noise reduction for video. Also, there is support for one camera sensor of up to as much as 320MP, or three camera lenses of up to 32MP each.
The chipset, MediaTek says, can power up to a Full HD+ display with a 180Hz resolution, or a QHD+ display with a 120hz refresh rate. There is also support for adaptive HDR10+ and a Smart BluLight Defender as well.

AI capabilities on the MediaTek Dimensity 8300
Bearing in mind how the next big thing seems to be bringing generative AI capabilities from the cloud right into your devices, the MediaTek Dimensity 8300 chipset also features a dedicated APU 780 AI processor, which can run Large Language Models (LLMS), with up to 10 billion parameters on a device.
The first devices powered by MediaTek’s newest chipset are expected to be released sometime in December 2023.
