MediaTek Dimensity 8200 chipset announced; promises better gaming experience on smartphones

Taiwanese semiconductor chip manufacturer MediaTek has announced a new chipset for 5G-enabled smartphones. Called the Dimensity 8200, this chipset is designed to offer flagship experiences at a more accessible price point. As the name suggests, this chip is the successor to the Dimensity 8100 chipset.

MediaTek Dimensity 8200 features

MediaTek’s latest offering is built on the 4nm-class process, resulting in increased power efficiency. It integrates an octa-core CPU with four ARM Cortex A-78 cores, which can operate with clock speeds up to 3.1GHz. It also features a Mali-G610 graphics engine, for better performance.

The Dimensity 8200 chip also features a fully integrated 5G modem with the latest 3GPP Release-16 standard technology and 3CC carrier aggregation to amplify sub-6GHz performance. It also supports tri-band Wi-Fi 6E for faster wireless connectivity, while the 2×2 antenna allows for more stable connections.

On the gaming front, the chipset allows users, with the help of MediaTek’s HyperEngine 6.0 gaming, to enjoy a smooth, high framerate gameplay experience, without suffering drops in connection or FPS jitter. MediaTek’s Intelligent Display Sync 2.0 technology intelligently adjusts the display refresh rate according to the game frame rate detected as well, which helps provide for better viewing experiences. The chipset supports 120Hz WQHD+ and 180Hz Full HD+ displays, making content consumption an enjoyable experience.

The MediaTek Dimensity 8200 is powered by a flagship-level Imagiq 785 ISP and is capable of supporting 320MP photos as well as capturing 14-bit HDR video on three cameras simultaneously. It is also capable of recording cinematic videos by double camera capture for a natural bokeh effect. The chipset also features fast AI-noise reduction to retain details better, especially in low-light conditions.
