Blade game announced at the Game Awards 2023 by Deathloop developers

Fans were in for much more than just seeing their favourite titles of the year receive awards at The Game Awards 2023. Along with the awards came several exciting announcements, including the Valhalla DLC for God of War Ragnarök, and Arkane Lyon’s announcement of a new Blade game.

Marvel’s Blade announced

Arkane Lyon is the developer behind games like Deathloop and the Dishonored series. The new Blade game will be set in a quarantined section of Paris. Citizens are battling a supernatural emergency, in the form of a vampire uprising. They have to stay in secure shelters while the latter prowl the streets of the city until the sun rises.

The player’s objective, as Blade, the half-human, half-vampire protagonist who travels the world hunting for vampires, is to take on the vampires that threaten the lives of ordinary citizens of Paris.

The teaser trailer of the game begins near a barber shop in Paris, with announcements blaring on a loudspeaker in the background in both, English and French. The protagonist is shown getting a trim at the very same shop, as you hear gunshots in the background, and watch Blade prepare himself.

Blade is based on the namesake character which first appeared in Marvel comics in 1973.

Interestingly, the announcement comes after Blade’s character first appeared at the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe film The Eternals, while the standalone film on the same is due to be released in theatres sometime in 2025. Moreover, this is the second vampire-focused game from Arkane Studios, after Redfall, which was released in 2023.

The game is likely to be launched for Xbox Series X/S, and desktops, but there’s no word yet on whether there will be launch on the PlayStation consoles. There’s also no word yet on the game launch date.
