Make It More: What you need to know about the latest ChatGPT trend

What do motivational speakers and the latest internet trend have in common? Both are about pushing your limits. Unless you have been on an internet hiatus or too wrapped in your Spotify Wrapped, you must have seen images of a dog overlooking galaxies or Bengaluru traffic getting worse. All these over-the-top images are a part of the currently viral “Make It More” trend.

What is the "Make It More" trend?

Since ChatGPT was opened to the public in November 2022, we’ve all taken (sometimes unfair) advantage of its capabilities. With a recent update, OpenAI, ChatGPT’s parent company, integrated their text-to-image AI model, DALL-E 3, with ChatGPT. The result? You can use ChatGPT to generate extremely detailed and fairly accurate images.

The “Make It More” trend uses this new ChatGPT feature to see how wild one can go with something absurdly normal. It starts with asking the tool to generate an image of something, and then just asking it to make the image more of something.

@konstantindeyev on X (formerly Twitter) generated a set of images of Cheetos that get increasingly more cheesy. Here are the results:

It all boils down to how far you are willing to go. Instagram account @chatgptricks started simple with a prompt “Generate an image of an adorable bunny” with every next prompt being “make it more happier”. A few steps later:

How can I participate in the trend?

To be part of the trend and create images using Dall-E via ChatGPT, you’ll need a subscription to ChatGPT Plus. Unfortunately, as announced on November 15, new sign-ups are paused due to high demand. You can however sign up for the waitlist to be notified once the subscription reopens.

While AI tools have been around for quite a while now, the “Make It More” trend marks one of the first times a viral meme trend is rooted in AI. With AI tools slowly going mainstream, trends like these prove that AI is not ‘all work and no play’.
