Madhuri Dixit and husband Dr Sriram Nene’s new home in Mumbai is a sight to behold. Located on the 53rd floor of a posh skyscraper, the home offers stunning views of the Arabian Sea with the city spread out before its owner’s feet.
When the movie star invited the design magazine Architectural Digest (AD) to sneak a peek into her new home, it was evident that this was the home of a family that loves art and loves music. For starters, a grand Steinway occupies centre stage of the couple’s living room. They also have a music room with a little over half a dozen guitars – both electric and acoustic – and at least one of their son’s bedrooms has an electronic keyboard.
Even though the Dixit-Nenes are empty nesters – both their sons (Arin and Ryan) are studying overseas – sound clearly plays an important role in their lives. Whether it is – pardon the obvious pun – the sound of music from the various musical instruments in their home and music players, or from their home theatre.

No surprise then that Madhuri Dixit’s house is outfitted with the coolest and perhaps one of the most expensive speaker systems you can possibly lay your hands on: Bowers & Wilkins.
Bowers & Wilkins, better known as B&W, makes some of the best professional loudspeakers and headphones known to humankind. The British company, founded just a few years after yet another beloved sound brand, Marshall, remains the go-to option for the discerning audiophile with (very, very) deep pockets. This is a brand that’s favoured by David Beckham, Emirates Airlines, and shares a 40-year relationship with the iconic Abbey Studios which has boasted of Bowers & Wilkins since 1980.
Madhuri Dixit’s home speakers are Bowers & Wilkins
The late MF Hussain was known to have been inspired by Madhuri Dixit. By her account, the smitten Hussain once offered to paint the walls of one of her homes as a gift. Horrified by the prospect of never being able to carry with her what would be a priceless work of art should she move, Madhuri asked him to paint, as he would, on canvas instead. Madhuri Dixit’s house in Mumbai is thus dotted with numerous Hussains.
And while we couldn’t take our eyes off these stunning works of art, we also couldn’t help noticing that perhaps the only thing that outnumbered the Hussains were Bowers & Wilkins speakers. Which is saying something given their eye-watering price.
Bowers & Wilkins speakers: features
The 800 Series speakers are most recognisable Bowers & Wilkins. Meticulously engineered and priced decidedly in the ‘if you have to ask…’ territory, these are the Aston Martin of loudspeakers: you know one if you see one.
Madhuri Dixit Bowers & Wilkins 800 Series feature the signature floating diamond dome tweeter crowning each speaker like a futuristic tiara. The iconic curved cabinets, finished in piano black, house new composite drivers that deliver bass with the authority of a royal decree and mids so natural you’ll swear the London Symphony Orchestra has taken up residence in your living room.

Bowers & Wilkins 800 Series is not so much a speaker as it is a portal to musical nirvana – one that happens to look like it belongs in MoMA.
In fact, the Bowers & Wilkins 800 Series in Madhuri Dixit’s home has a storied history. Abbey Road, the legendary recording studio, that The Beatles often favoured has featured the Bowers & Wilkins 800 Series since 1980 as the studio’s monitor of choice and continues to retain its place as the loudspeaker of choice for the world’s most famous recording studios.
Bowers & Wilkins price
Bowers & Wilkins features a wide range of speakers with prices starting at a few hundred dollars. The Bowers & Wilkins 800 Series center piece is priced at priced at €5,999 which roughly comes to Rs 5,45,000. From what we could see, this central unit is paired with two 801 D4 Signature floor standing speakers from the same company. They are priced at $55,000 per pair which approximately amounts to Rs 46 lakh or about the price of an SUV.
Madhuri Dixit and Dr Sriram Nene’s home features something even better than a Bowers & Wilkins speakers set: a second set of Bowers & Wilkins! These speakers occupy a place of pride in their music room. Thanks to the video, we could see what Madhuri Dixit’s home looked like, but we can only imagine what it sounds like. We’d like to think, heaven.
