Kaspersky Android and iOS apps get enhanced security, privacy with new update

In a time when our data and devices are constantly at risk of being compromised, practising good online hygiene and having anti-virus installed is never a bad idea. Keeping this in mind, Kaspersky has announced an ‘enhanced’ update for its Android and iOS app users, focusing on privacy, security and improved usability.

A report published by the cybersecurity platform cites how mobile devices account for nearly 60 per cent of the global web traffic. To ensure safety at all times, the existing apps will now be eligible for an update that offers a higher level of safety and protection for its users. Read on to learn more about the new features.

Kaspersky iOS and Android app update: What's new?

Kaspersky, for one, has introduced a long-awaited dark mode for both its Android and iOS users which guarantees a more comfortable viewing experience. Users will also be able to make the most of a new Identity Theft Check feature. This allows them to track leaks on accounts linked to a number, and to take immediate protection measures, such as changing the password on the affected account.

However, iOS users get an updated set of features, including a new Security Scan button. This checks all security systems on the iPhone and helps users enable powerful protection and recommendations. This means your app will soon be able to prompt you to switch on VPN, anti-phishing, or any other security feature relevant to your browsing habits.

Moreover, iPhone users will now have access to a Private Browsing extension on the Safari browser. It will help prevent tracking systems from collecting information about users’ activity or monitoring their online behaviour. Additionally, users will also be able to benefit from Safari’s Anti-Banner element to block out potentially harmful banner ads.

Lastly, Kaspersky has added a Siri shortcut for improved usability, and users will now be able to turn their VPN on and off using voice commands. However, this option is currently only available for consumer solutions equipped with a VPN, such as Kaspersky VPN standalone, Kaspersky Premium and Kaspersky Plus.

Both smartphone apps will also get time-to-time updates, including anti-phishing, VPN, anti-spyware, online privacy, identity protection and of course, antivirus.

When will the Kaspersky smartphone app update be available to install?

Kaspersky will be gradually rolling out the updates for both its Android and iOS apps over the course of the next few weeks. However, to make sure your app is updated to its latest version, make sure you check the Play Store and App Store. Apart from this, it is also crucial to note that Identity Theft Check is only available for Kaspersky Premium users and it can be activated only after purchasing the plan online.
