Apple’s landmark iOS 18 update is right around the corner and there are plenty of speculations, as to what is in store for the brand’s biggest update yet. One of these mentions Apple’s plans to introduce artificial intelligence to iPhones. A recent report by Bloomberg also mentions how these AI features will function entirely on the devices and will not require cloud servers. Here’s everything we know so far about the update:
AI features for iPhones: What's there to know?
The report states how Apple’s AI capabilities will not have a cloud processing component and will entirely function in tandem with the operating system. The company’s large language model may also use other third-party large language models, such asGoogle’s Gemini or OpenAI’s GPT-4, to power some of these features. Moreover, Apple is also reportedly in talks with the aforementioned companies to integrate these AI models into the iPhone.

That said, your iPhone may not necessarily come built-in with a chatbot to access these AI-powered features, and it may just integrate generative AI capabilities into other day-to-day functions of the iPhone. This could include native apps, and Apple’s virtual assistant, Siri. Apart from these, other services such as Notes, Apple Music and Spotlight could also be supercharged using generative AI.
So far, it remains unclear if iOS 18 will bring AI features to all the iPhones, or just the upcoming ones. However, the WWDC 2024 being scheduled in June will certainly put a lot of these speculations to rest.
