Apple has rolled out a new update for iPhones, and it’s not the one you’d expect. The iOS 18.0.1 update is the first official smaller update to iOS 18, and it brings major bug fixes for the newly launched iPhone 16 series. The update addresses the touchscreen, camera, messaging, and performance issues faced by iPhone users.
Here’s everything that the update fixes, and how you can install it right away on your iPhone 16 or any other older eligible iPhone.
iOS 18.0.1 brings bug fixes for the newest iPhones
Apple’s iOS 18.0.1 update is the first official update for iOS 18, and it comes ahead of the much-awaited iOS 18.1 update, which will bring Apple Intelligence features. While there are no AI features in this small update sized under 500MB, it brings much-needed bug fixes for most of the iPhone 16 issues.
Some users faced a touchscreen issue on their iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pros, where the screen was temporarily unresponsive. This issue has now been fixed, according to the patch notes of iOS 18.0.1.
Further, the update fixes the camera freezing issues, which used to occur while recording a macro mode video on the ultrawide camera in 4K with HDR turned off. Moreover, the messaging bug, where the Messages app used to unexpectedly crash when replying to a message with a shared Apple Watch face, has also been fixed.

Other than this, some of the iPhone models running on iOS 18 weren’t able to deliver full performance due to an issue with memory allocation. The iOS 18.0.1 update fixes this issue, too, allowing the affected models to offer unrestricted performance.
Should you update your iPhone to iOS 18.0.1?
As mentioned above, this update is mainly for the latest iPhone 16 series of phones. So, if you own the latest iPhone, you should update it right away. To do that, you need to head to Settings > General > Software Update.
Let the device check for updates, and when you see the update, download and install it. You won’t need much storage to install this update, since it’s under 500MB.
Those who own any iPhone other than the latest iPhone 16 models can also update their device as it is always recommended to be on the latest version.
