iPhone 16 Pro vs iPhone 15 Pro: What to know before an upgrade

Are all the new features enough of an upgrade for you?

iPhone 16 Pro vs iPhone 15 Pro: What to know before an upgrade

Apple has officially taken the wraps off the new iPhone 16 series, and among the highlights is the new iPhone 16 Pro. With improved cameras and some new hardware-powered tricks, the iPhone 16 Pro has some cool tricks up its sleeve that last year’s iPhone 15 Pro is not capable of.

Just what are these changes though? Apple’s marketing can make it difficult to gauge what’s different. Worry not, this in-depth comparison between the two Pro phones should pinpoint the exact differences for you. Let’s begin with the design.

iPhone 16 Pro vs iPhone 15 Pro: Design

The iPhone 16 Pro series offer bigger phones. Not only is the 6.3-inch display now bigger than the 6.1-inch screen on the iPhone 15 Pro, but this also means more battery capacity on the new devices.

This also holds true for the 16 Pro Max, which now has a 6.9-inch screen instead of the 6.8-inch screen from last year’s iPhone 15 Pro Max. Both phones are now ever-so-slightly taller and wider.

Coming to the colours, however, not a lot has changed. Besides a new Desert Titanium shade that replaces the Blue Titanium colour from the 15 Pro series, the Natural Titanium, Black Titanium and White Titanium colours remain identical.

iPhone 16 Pro vs iPhone 15 Pro: Display

Apple has not changed a lot in the display department besides the sizes we already spoke about above. Both displays offer 2,000nits brightness, Haptic Touch and Pro-exclusive features like True Tone and 120Hz variable ProMotion.

Apple does mention that a newer version of Ceramic Shield is used on the iPhone 16 Pro, but how strong this is compared to the standard Ceramic Shield remains to be seen.

iPhone 16 Pro vs iPhone 15 Pro: Performance

The performance is perhaps the biggest change in the new Pro iPhones. Apple says that the A18 Pro chip offers improved CPU and GPU performance, making it better at multitasking, as well as AAA gaming. A 20 per cent GPU boost as Apple suggests would mean the A18 Pro is noticeably better at resource-heavy games.

There also other smaller changes. The iPhone 16 Pro supports Wi-Fi 7 networks, while the iPhone 15 Pro was capped at Wi-Fi 6E. The newer Pro iPhone also supports 25W wireless MagSafe charging with Qi2 support.

iPhone 16 Pro vs iPhone 15 Pro: Cameras

The iPhone 16 Pro and 15 Pro share the same 48MP main camera, but the 16 Pro comes with a new 48MP ultrawide camera too, which can take larger, more detailed images than the 12MP ultrawide sensor on the older phone.

With macro mode using the ultrawide sensor, the iPhone 16 Pro can take also 48MP macro photos.

We can’t talk about the cameras and miss the new Camera Controls feature that’s exclusive to the iPhone 16 Pro. This includes a new capacitive button on the right side of the phone, which can be touched firmly to open the camera interface, and then to take a picture.

These are the major differences between the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro series. Stay tuned for more updates on the new iPhones, and all things tech.
