Say goodbye to frequent trips to the service center

Your iPhone 15’s battery life may last way longer than you think

One of the first signs of ageing in a phone is its sudden drop in general battery life. This stands true of all phones, whether you’re an Android or an iPhone user. Now, however, should you be one of the latter, and an iPhone 15 series user in particular, we’ve got some good news for you. Read on to know just what it is.

Well, Apple initially advertised that the batteries in all its iPhone models would retain up to 80 per cent of their original battery capacity at 500 complete charge cycles. However, recent tests reveal that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, as well as the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, can retain 80 percent of their battery capacity at up to 1,000 complete charge cycles.

What is a charge cycle?

The battery charge cycle or the battery cycle on your iPhone, for the unaware, refers to how many times the battery is charged to 100 per cent and then fully used before it drains out. However, if you use only a part of the battery’s capacity, recharge it and then do the same thing the next day, that will also count as one battery cycle.

Bear in mind, however, Apple also said that the exact battery capacity percentage of any iPhone model ultimately depends on how the devices are regularly used and charged.

The battery on the iPhone 15 series of smartphones, it says, retain up to 80 per cent battery capacity at 1,000 complete charge cycles only under ideal conditions. Just what conditions these are, however, Apple makes no mention of, in its support document.

Moreover, the battery capacity for older iPhone models including the iPhone 11, iPhone 12, iPhone 13, and iPhone 14 series also remains unchanged for now. Apple does say, however, that they are currently going another round of testing to confirm the same.

How to maximise your iPhone's battery life

Now, to maximise your iPhone’s battery life, there are a few steps you can take yourself as well.

1. Uninstall any apps that tend to drain your battery. You can find these under Settings > Battery > Battery usage by app.

2. Avoid charging your phone at frequent intervals. As far as possible, ensure longer, uninterrupted charging sessions for your phone rather than charging it frequently, for shorter intervals

3. Make use of the Optimised battery charging feature. The feature, which was introduced with iOS 13, delays charging your device beyond 80 per cent, if it knows your device may be connected to the charger for an extended period of time. How it knows, is by learning your usual charging routine, using on-device machine learning.

4. Ensure you never subject your iPhone to extreme temperatures- whether too hot or too cold. Sharp temperature changes can also have an adverse effect on your iPhone’s battery.

5. Ensure your iPhone’s operating system is always updated to the latest version.

6. Use your iPhone on low power mode whenever possible. It will disable some features such as AirPlay, and drop the screen refresh rate on your phone. However, it also cuts down on background data consumption, and processes on the phone, so as to enhance the battery life on your device.
