The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, while nearly two years old now, will always remain known as a big step in a new direction for Apple, design-wise. This was all thanks to the innovative ‘dynamic island’ notch style. Moving away from the earlier notch design, the dynamic island concept reduces the amount of non-screen space around the front camera system and Face ID sensors, along with software-based implementations designed to make that area of the screen usable for notifications and other key iPhone info. It has since been seen on other iPhone models as well.
Introduced globally in 2022, the smartphpones are the first from the brand to have featured this new ‘dynamic island’ design for the screen and notch. However, there are a few crucial differences between the two devices themselves, if you’re still planning to buy either one of them.
Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max vs iPhone 14 Pro: Key differences
Display
The biggest difference between the Apple iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max, are the sizes of the smartphones themselves, as well as the size of the screen. The iPhone 14 Pro has a 6.1-inch, 2556×1179-pixel OLED display, which has a pixel density ratio of 460 pixels per inch. In comparison, the iPhone 14 Pro Max has a larger 6.7-inch 2796×1290-pixel OLED display, which has an identical pixel density ratio of 460ppi.

This means that both smartphones offer a similar level of sharpness on the screen, and the choice for customers is entirely based on the screen size they prefer. Those who want a larger screen will prefer the iPhone 14 Pro Max, but this also comes with the smartphone being a lot larger and heavier as a result, with the 14 Pro Max weighing 240g as compared to 206g for the 14 Pro. Those who prefer smaller and more compact smartphones will therefore prefer the iPhone 14 Pro.
Battery
Additionally, the iPhone 14 Pro Max has a larger battery than that of the iPhone 14 Pro. This primarily powers the larger display but also ensures slightly better battery life on the whole. The iPhone 14 Pro’s battery life for video playback is rated for up to 23 hours at a stretch, whereas that of the iPhone 14 Pro Max is rated for up to 29 hours.
That’s mainly all that’s different between the two devices, however. Otherwise, they are largely the same.
