Not too long ago, Apple announced its plan to integrate artificial intelligence-led features with the landmark iOS 18 update. However, while the larger bit of it will eventually be announced at the annual developer’s conference, a recent Bloomberg report highlighted a major overhaul for Siri.
The report announced the possibility of a key AI update for the virtual assistant, which will allow it greater control over individual app features on your iPhone.
iOS 18 AI integration for Siri: What's there to know?
Building on its plan to make Siri ‘smarter’, the new update will allow the virtual assistant to analyse activity on your iPhone and its apps. The report goes on to talk about how the change required Apple to revamp Siri’s underlying software using large language models. This is a core technology that is used for generative AI and it is reportedly set to push the brand towards an improved Siri.

The report further states how the update will allow Siri to turn on Siri-controlled features on your iPhone simply by analysing the activity on your device. That said, the feature, for starters, will remain limited to apps made by Apple only.
Siri will reportedly be able to process only one command at a time. That said, the brand is said to be planning on eventually allowing the virtual assistant to take up more than one task with a single request. An example of this would be asking Siri to record an online meeting and simultaneously send it to a contact.
Additionally, an older Bloomberg report also highlighted how Apple will focus on handling any AI-based requests on-device. It stated how this would allow smaller tasks to be handled on the iPhone and more complex ones using iCloud.
When will the AI update arrive to iPhones and Siri?
As of today, the AI update for Siri isn’t likely to arrive any time before next year. However, there will be a lot more clarity on the subject post Apple’s WWDC 2024 event, which is scheduled on June 10.
