iOS 18.2 rolls out with Image Playground, Genmoji, and Visual Intelligence

Apple has rolled out the new iOS 18.2 update to all compatible iPhones. This is one of the biggest iOS 18 updates yet, as it brings a slew of features and updates. This includes Image Playground, Genmoji, ChatGPT support for Siri, and more. Here’s everything new in iOS 18.2.

What’s new in iOS 18.2?

Image Playground

Apple’s iOS 18.2 brings in many features that Apple originally showcased back in June at WWDC 2024. Starting with Image Playground, which allows you to create AI-generated images with text prompts, is now live on iPhones with iOS 18.2. Image Playground is like OpenAI’s DALL-E, letting you put your thoughts into pictures.

Genmoji

Genmoji is also available with this update, allowing iPhone users to generate their own custom emojis, just by adding text prompts. So, for instance, you can type “Prawn wearing a hat” and a Genmoji, which is basically an emoji, will be automatically generated.

ChatGPT integration with Siri, Writing Tools update

This is one of the much-awaited features, as it allows iOS users to leverage the prowess of ChatGPT through Siri. With this integration, if a complex query is raised, Siri can redirect the query to ChatGPT for a better response.

To access ChatGPT via Siri, users need to enable the integration through Settings. Interestingly, there’s no need to create an account for this, and all your queries that go to ChatGPT via Siri will be anonymous.

ChatGPT on iOS can also be accessed via Apple’s Writing Tools suite. Apart from this, Writing Tools have received a new feature called Describe Your Change. The feature gives users more flexibility and control over their AI-generated text.

Visual Intelligence

Visual Intelligence is finally here, and it allows users to learn about objects in viewfinder. So, you can simply point your iPhone’s camera towards Taj Mahal and it will give you some insights about it, such as who built it, style of the construction, among other things.

Redesigned Mail app

iOS 18.2 brings a redesigned Mail app. The Mail app now sorts your mails into categories. For instance, it will automatically store receipts and delivery related emails in the Transactions category. A fresh design and categorisation feature for the mail app is supposed to make the emailing experience better.

How to update your iPhone to iOS 18.2

While these features look enticing, do note that most of these features will only be available to iPhone 15 Pro and above models. However, the iOS 18.2 update is rolling out to all compatible iPhones that have already received the iOS 18.1 update. So, here’s how you can update your iPhone to iOS 18.2.
