For a lot of iPhone users, iOS 18 was a significantly big update – including some major home screen customisation settings, a brand-new Control Centre and more. However, some key functionality features that Apple had showcased back during WWDC 2024 were missing.
Now, with iOS 18.1, we’re finally getting those two features and then some. Here’s everything you need to know about the new update, and how to install it.
iOS 18.1: What’s new?
iOS 18.1 comes with a lot of new features. Let’s quickly go over all of them.
Apple Intelligence – the Apple Intelligence suite of AI-powered features is here, and the first features include Writing Tools, which help you write and proofread in any app (first and third party). You also get notification summarisation, which will take multiple notifications from an app and use AI to summarise them for you in a single line.

Call recording – iOS 18.1 users can finally use the native Phone app to record cellular calls. All you have to do is call someone and you should then see a new recording button on the left side of the in-call UI screen. Tap on it to begin recording the call. Do keep in mind that the feature will alert all parties in the call of the recording before initiation.
New Control Centre Controls – A dedicated control for the Wi-Fi settings as well as some other controls have now been added to the Control Centre options, allowing you to further customise the panel to your liking, and have quick access to frequently-used settings.
Camera Control features – The Camera Control Switch now also lets you quickly switch to the front camera, allowing quicker transitions when you want to go from selfies to rear-camera shots.
Hearing Test and Hearing Aid – Those who have the AirPods Pro 2 will also finally be able to use the new Hearing Test feature to take an accurate measurement of how good their hearing is using an iOS 18.1 smartphone and the AirPods. The AirPods 2 can now also be used as a hearing aid for those with mild to moderate hearing loss, as long as they are aged 18 and above.
Those were the best iOS 18.1 features, but the update also comes with plenty of bug fixes that you can read about in the screenshot attached above.
