iOS 18.1 brings support for spatial photos on iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max

Apple rolled out the iOS 18.1 developer beta 4 on Tuesday, and it brings a significant feature to compatible iPhones. So far, users were able to record Spatial Videos from their iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Now, iOS 18.1 brings support for Spatial Photos.

Let’s see what the new feature is and who can access it.

What’s spatial photos on iOS 18.1?

Like Spatial Videos, Spatial Photos are images with more depth, making them suitable for viewing on the Apple Vision Pro. Unlike regular photos, which the Vision Pro anyway displays into 3D, Spatial Photos will be better framed for the mixed reality headset.

But you can’t get it just yet

While Spatial Photos are great, you can’t get the feature just yet. Why? That’s because the feature is available in iOS 18.1 developer beta 4, which is basically pre-release software for app developers. This means you will have to wait for the stable iOS 18.1 update to arrive on your device before you begin snapping Spatial Photos.

Also, Spatial Photos are only compatible with the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and of course, the entire iPhone 16 lineup. The base iPhone 15 models and older iPhone models will not get the feature.

This will let you install the fourth beta build of iOS 18.1, and gain access to Spatial Photos right away, along with other features like Apple Intelligence and native call recording.
