It has been a few weeks since Apple released iOS 17.3, and as we head closer to the next feature update, a new iOS 17.4 beta has brought some new features to early access testers. Fortunately for us, this is a good peak into what we can expect from the stable version of iOS 17.4.
Here’s everything new with iOS 17.4 so far.
New splash screen
Remember that signature iOS 17 screen you first saw when you first booted your device after the update? Yes, the one with the “Hello” in multiple languages. Starting with iOS 17.4, this splash screen will now be customised with your profile picture in the middle.
Battery status indicator
With iOS 17.4, Apple has also made changes to its battery menu that will make it easier for users to know if their iPhones‘s battery health is normal. While we’re yet to see this feature in action, it will be a handy tool to let you know if your battery health is depleting too quickly.
Instrument Cluster Screen on CarPlay
CarPlay users will be glad to know that with iOS 17.4, users with a digital dashboard and central console will be able to switch display types and see either the instrument cluster screen or the CarPlay interface.

As Apple puts it, “Users will be able to swap the desired display type between the main and instrument cluster screen by tapping the map configuration button on the upper right of the Maps main screen”. Sadly, however, these features will only come to select models which support Apple’s next-gen CarPlay.
iOS 17.4 is expected to come to the stable channel in early March this year, which means its only a couple of more weeks before most users can expect to see these features in action. Stay tuned for any more updates meanwhile.
