Just a little over a week after Apple released the iOS 17.4 update for iPhones, the next update, iOS 17.4.1, is already being expected to be rolled out as soon as within the next week. Here’s the scoop.
iOS 17.4.1 update: Possible bug fixes
News of the iOS 17.4.1 update first came from MacRumors, which spotted evidence on its website logs, that the update was being tested internally.
iOS 17.4.1 isn’t expected to bring any major upgrades with it as such, but it may very well fix several bugs that users had been reporting in the iOS 17.4 update.
For starters, several iPhone users, after updating their devices to iOS 17.4 began to complain of significantly faster battery drainage. It’s likely that the iOS 17.4.1 update could potentially fix the same.

Secondly, iOS 17.4 brought with it several major upgrades- one of the biggest of them being sideloading. Sideloading. For the unaware, sideloading refers to downloading and installing applications from a third-party source, rather than a device’s manufacturer’s official app store.
Apple enabled this for iPhone with iOS 17.4, to comply with EU regulations. This, in essence, meant that people could now download and install apps from other sources such as Google Play Store. Bearing in mind how this had to be implemented in a bit of a haste to comply with the deadline set as per the EU Digital Markets Act, there may have been a few bugs in the process. iOS 17.4.1 will likely fix these bugs too.
Lastly, iOS 17.4.1 may also well be an emergency security upgrade, to patch flaws that are already being exploited in targeted attacks on iPhones, presumably to steal the data on them.

Apple used to issue these updates as Rapid Security responses, but they haven’t released one for a while now. While iOS 17.4 did address two issues being exploited in the attacks, from a list of 40, the other bugs may need to be addressed quickly as well.
iOS 17.4.1 update: When it could be launched
Now, while it is expected that Apple will be releasing the update sometime this week or the next, there has been no official confirmation from the company regarding it, as of yet. Speaking of updates though, you may also want to keep an eye out for iOS 17.5, which should be available for beta testing soon.
